An NYPD lieutenant allegedly tried to pull strings to downgrade a felony charge against her ex-boyfriend’s father, who was busted for strangling a tennis racket-wielding man in a Brooklyn road-rage brawl — and now she’s facing departmental charges.
The drama began in September 2017, when David Reuven and Gary Feldman got into a fender-bender in Sheepshead Bay and stepped out to hash it out, cops from the 61st Precinct testified Tuesday at 1 Police Plaza.
Reuven, 62, throttled Feldman, who responded by bashing Reuven over the head with the racket, cops recalled.
Cops broke it up and charged both men with felonies: Assault for Feldman and strangulation for Reuven, testified arresting officer Dane Miller.
Back at the station house, Lt. Yael Magori allegedly injected herself into the case, asking Miller to instead charge Reuven with misdemeanor criminal obstruction of breathing — and mentioned that she formerly dated Reuven’s son.
Miller said he relented at Magori’s behest, editing Reuven’s paperwork to reflect the lighter charge.
But when another lieutenant, Howard Zweben, reviewed the forms and spotted Reuven walking freely around the cop shop later that evening, it raised eyebrows.
“Lt. Magori said no shackles,” Zweben testified Reuven told him.
When Zweben questioned Magori, she blew him off — until he said he was getting their boss involved, Zweben said.
Prosecutors ultimately decided — on their own — to downgrade Reuven’s charge to a misdemeanor, but the outcomes of his case and Feldman’s were not immediately known. Reuven could not be reached for comment.
Magori — a one-time ‘Cop of the Month’ at another precinct — faces departmental charges including improperly directing the issuance of a desk-appearance ticket.
“I think these charges are unfortunate and we hope she’ll be exonerated,” said her lawyer, Rae Koshetz.
